TE KAMOKAMO-VINE...
Kia ora whanau and welcome to our 'Kamokamo-vine edition' coming to you from the Wairoa Marae-Runanga o Ngati Kahu Office.
This is where we will try and do monthly panui out to our whanau to keep you updated on upcoming events, or kaupapa that have happened on and around the Marae.
We will also look at getting updates from our Marae Committees, in the hope of keeping you all up with the play!! Those will come in the next editions.
Firstly, let's put a face (nice one's hehe) to the kaimahi working here in the office.

Some of the things I do: Everything and anything lol....from trying to unblock wharepaku, to checking the Marae after bookings, to answering the phone, to Marae enquiries, to financial and minute-taking for our Runanga and Marae, maintaining Corporation books and the list goes on....and on...
What do I like the best about my mahi? No two days are the same, helping our whanau, having a korero with our Kaumatua that call in from time to time, and working for our own people. Being here on our Marae!
What do I like to do in my spare time? I enjoy travelling, having date nights with my husband Tony (especially when kai is involved), also passionate about hapu initiatives for our whanau and our kapa haka group 'Te Awaroa o Kahu'-Tumeke Taniwha!!

PARA KORE
We have very exciting news, for all of you who do not already know...we have become a Para Kore Marae!

We are trying to recycle as much as possible. We have been given three recycling bins, with very straight forward signage on the front.
There are also small crates that fit underneath the kitchen benches. We have also received a 'Hungry Bin', which is a very simple and straight forward way to compost.
You can look into it more on the PARA KORE Facebook page, and you can checkout the Hungry Bins at www.hungrybins.co.nz if you want to know more about either of the two.
A huge thank you to Kylie Willison for arranging all the bins, crates, amazing signs and giving us the worms to get our Hungry Bin Compost rolling!!!

WANANGA #5

BIG MIHI to all of our whanau who came from near and far to be apart of a most beautiful weekend for our Wananga.
Nei ra nga mihi kia koutou katoa, kare he kupu e pa ana ki te rere o te wairua, nga waiata, nga kai tino reka me nga mahi katoa.... Tu meke whanau!!!!!!
It was beautiful to make re- connections and new connections with whanau and cuzzies we knew we were related to but not quiet sure how...and now we know.
Could go on and on but best to leave that korero for our whanau who came and were able to be a part of it.... If any whanau have pictures or footage from the weekend please feel free to share it on our Facebook page or email through to us at kahut@xtra.co.nz.
Mauriora ki a tatou!!

AMNESTY MONTH
We have noticed that a few of the plates, bowls, baking and roasting trays and buckets have gone missing.....
So we thought its the perfect time to have an amnesty month!!
For the whole of August and September (any time really) bring your plates etc down with no questions asked.
If no one is at the Marae just pop them out the back of the Wharekai.
Thanks so much to all those who have been returning dishes lately and a huge thank you to the person who left a nice collection outside the wharekai last week.
Every little bit back really makes a difference, thank you so much!
BETHLEHEM COLLEGE AND AQUINAS
SERVICE DAY

In late May and mid June we were lucky to have Aquinas College come out for almost a whole day to do work around the Marae. Ranging from the gardens to cleaning the windows.
Then on the 16th of June, Bethlehem College came out for an hour to clear out the raised garden bed by the clothes line, some weeding out the front carpark area, and down at the Kohanga Reo also.
Its great to have kids from the community come in, get motivated and give back. We enjoyed having them around. Hopefully they will be back in the near future.
If you or anyone you know has tamariki that has a service day coming up at their kura feel free to let us know. It is great having help to do maintenance at the Marae. Especially when we eventually head into the warmer months.
WORKING BEE

A HUGE thank you to all of those who came along to the Marae working bee. You all did such an amazing job. The Marae looks so good!! It couldn't have been done without all of you. It makes such a difference having so many helping hands!!
There will also be a follow up working bee before the end of the year. We just have a few more jobs that need to get done. But a Facebook message will be sent out with plenty of notice.
